I love.

Who else do you know eat termites, crickets, kangaroo, shark, and….belugas? There’s the dried whale meat, which I really enjoyed, and then there’s the blubar that I first enjoyed than felt ill after realizing what I was trying to digest (the ladies on the right cut the whale using the traditional tool, Ulu). I think I will leave it as an experience however I gained an appriciation for how much food comes from one beluga whale and how northern communities live for and depend on this 1000kg mammal.
Ahh…the stories of Yellowknife. I’ve been here only three days and I’ve experienced a ridiculous amount of laughter, a great amount of exotic food, a fantastic share of rye, and hours of dancing…and causing a little trouble on the dance floor.
As for what I’ve learned? Once again, our public school system has failed to properly educate me in our Country. I took about 70km west, to the end of the road, and took in the frigid cold and tranquility, plus some sketchy scrambling on the shield. It was beautiful. I also got an inside look at the legislator from MLA Sandy Lee (which is the most beautifully architectural designed building…modern day), an inside visit during the NWT tourism AGM, and met the mayor, Mr. Van Tighem. The politics are interesting up here, mostly due to the pipeline that Harper demands to supply the oil sands and the controversy with Alberta’s oil projects lowering water levels by 10 feet.
AND if that wasn’t all, oh wait, that is all. Well, I’ve also taken in some amazing art work and sculptures from local artists…anything from $400 to $7500, plus priceless originals from one of the famous seven, who’s name escapes me right now.
If you ever really want to know what I’ve been up to…you’ll have to call me when I get back.
